“The service from Lloyds means a lot to me, it means I can be a normal teenager.” – Ruby’s story

Ruby receives home-based parenteral nutrition (HPN) from Lloyds Clinical, allowing her to live more independently, keep her routines, and enjoy time with friends.

When Ruby was born, her parents noticed she wasn’t interested in feeding and became quite unwell. She spent months in and out of hospital because she wasn’t growing or getting the nutrition she needed. Eventually, Ruby was diagnosed with a condition that prevents her from absorbing all the nutrients her body requires.

To keep her healthy, Ruby began receiving HPN, providing the vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrition normally obtained through eating. After a period of treatment in hospital, doctors advised she would need to continue HPN at home. Ruby and her family were referred to Lloyds Clinical, where they began specialist training to safely administer HPN themselves.

They were supported by their dedicated coordinator, Lisa, who was always just a call away:

“I’m passionate about HPN. I just want patients to be able to have a life and do the things they should be doing.” – Lisa, Lloyds Clinical HPN Coordinator

Ruby’s treatment runs seven days a week. With the option of her HPN carried in a backpack, she can stay mobile, meeting friends, going shopping, and playing the drums. Lloyds Clinical also helps plan her treatment schedule so she can travel on holiday.

“The service from Lloyds Clinical means a lot to me, it means I can be a normal teenager” – Ruby

The support extends far beyond training. From drivers delivering medication on time, to the call centre team answering middle-of-the-night emergencies, Ruby’s family has always felt backed up:

“We’ve always got the help we needed and beyond.” – Ruby’s mum
