Hot Weather Medicines Storage Advice
With temperatures rising during periods of hot weather, it is important to take extra care when storing your medicines. Heat can affect the quality and effectiveness of some medications, particularly those that require refrigeration or are labelled for storage below 25°C.
How to Store Your Medicines Safely
Store in a cool, dry place
Keep your medicines in a cool, dry place and always follow the storage instructions provided on the packaging or patient information leaflet.
Keep away from heat
Store medicines away from direct sunlight, radiators, windowsills and other sources of heat.
Don’t leave in vehicles
Do not leave medicines in cars, vans, conservatories, sheds or other enclosed spaces where temperatures can rise rapidly.
Keep in original packaging
Keep medicines in their original packaging to help protect them from light and temperature fluctuations.
Use an insulated bag if needed
If you need to carry medicines with you for an extended period, particularly temperature-sensitive medicines, use an appropriate insulated or cool bag if advised to do so.
Refrigerate correctly
Medicines that require refrigeration, such as certain injections, should be stored according to the manufacturer’s instructions and returned to a refrigerator as soon as possible after transport.
