Introducing Automated Compounding Technology
We are continuing to invest in our Home Parenteral Nutrition service and are introducing new automated compounding technology within our manufacturing operation.
This investment is part of our wider commitment to strengthen the infrastructure, technology and capability that support our NHS partners and HPN patients.
What is changing?
The new technology will allow a greater proportion of suitable HPN preparations to be produced through an automated process. Because the pumps operate at a consistent flow rate, we can better understand expected production times and therefore plan available capacity with greater confidence. It supports:
- Greater standardisation within the manufacturing process
- Reduced reliance on individual manual preparation steps
- More consistent and predictable production flow
- Improved visibility of manufacturing throughput and available capacity
What does this mean for our customers?
For our NHS partners, the main benefit is greater predictability and control of manufacturing capacity.
This gives us better information when planning existing demand, considering additional volume and supporting the future growth of HPN services.
It also strengthens the resilience of our manufacturing model by reducing reliance on some manual processes and increasing standardisation.
Our investment in automated compounding will increase manufacturing capacity while giving us greater visibility and predictability of throughput. This will help us plan more confidently and support future growth in HPN demand.

What does not change?
Our commitment to patient safety, product quality and regulatory compliance remains exactly the same.
The introduction of automated technology does not replace the existing controls, professional oversight or quality assurance that underpin our HPN service.
The technology is being introduced through a controlled qualification and validation programme before being incorporated into routine manufacturing.
Supporting the future of HPN
Lloyds Clinical has supported NHS partners and patients with specialist clinical care for more than 30 years and is a leading provider on the NHS HPN Framework.
This latest investment strengthens our ability to support existing partners while continuing to develop the capacity and resilience needed for future demand.
