“I live at home, I work and the hospital comes to me.”
Lloyds Clinical Private Cancer Care: Mrs Dixon’s story
Mrs Dixon lives and works in Harrogate with her husband. She has been receiving treatment at home for breast cancer since January 2026.
We live in Harrogate and my surgeons are at Spire Hospital in Leeds. Having my treatment at home means I’m not in a hospital gown environment and that’s important to us. I don’t want to feel like a patient, I just want to be able to get on with life.
Living life with my normal routine
Having my treatment at home means I’m not in a hospital ward, travelling to Leeds, trying to park my car – which in rush hour can take a good hour. I can get on with my life, think about other things in an environment where I am me. Being at home, living life with my normal routine, that’s what I want. I run my own business in financial services and I work from home with my husband. Every day we go to our office in the garden, life is normal.
In January, following my diagnosis, my consultant offered me treatment at home. The first person that came to see me was Kym, a Lloyds Clinical nurse and she’s one of the kindest people. I tend to see Kym or Lynn, but all the nurses are so kind and lovely. As soon as Kym arrived that first time, she made me feel at ease and she explained everything. We went through the ECG monitoring, got the results back and everything was explained meticulously.
They take all the stress away
The nurses will text me and ask what time is best to visit – they are so efficient and reliable. I have a blood draw at home every Monday, this is really easy and should be offered at home. They visit me weekly, which will change to fortnightly shortly, now that everything has started to settle down. I take two tablets every day, Letrozole and Ribociclib – which I take for three weeks and then pause for a week to rest my bone marrow and liver. I have blood tests so that they can check my liver and that everything is ok. Lloyds Clinical arrange for the Ribociclib tablets to come to me. On one occasion they arranged for the courier to deliver my tablet at midnight, so that it was ready for the next day – that’s a premium service. They take all the stress away and they are completely invaluable. I don’t need to get a prescription, I don’t have to drive to Leeds, everything is taken care of, so I can get on with life.
In touch with my hospital consultant
My nurses are in touch with my hospital consultant, Dr Naik. They talk to me and tell me what they are doing, then they share everything with Dr Naik. There’s a channel of communication between my nurses and my consultant and they are able to field my questions. I ask about lots of things, ‘which supplements can I take’ or ‘is it ok if I take vitamin D’ and they can get me the answer quickly. It’s never too much trouble and I feel I can ask them anything.
Meticulous and detailed
Every nurse has been wonderful because of how lovely they are and how meticulous and detailed they are with my treatment and care. They are some of the kindest people. Lynn comes most of the time and she’s like one of the family now. We’ve got to know her well over the last 5 months. And the nurses know me, they know I don’t want pity. I’m not a person who wants to talk about my diagnosis every time they come, I just want to get on with life. They’re very good at recognising that. They have work to do, but when they’re here, it’s not all about the cancer, we talk about anything and everything. Lynn was showing me pictures of her baby shower recently and we both had a good laugh about that.
The service feels very tailored to me, they come here, they respect me and know me for who I am. Lloyds Clinical have nailed it with this. I live at home, I work and the hospital comes to me.
